Let’s get ready to rumbaaaaaaa! Fiesta Friona will samba into the Friona Community Center Tuesday evening March 10th as the Friona Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture hosts its 64th Annual Awards Banquet. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. and the extravaganza will commence at 6:00 p.m. with emcees Ed & Tyleen Caffrey and the posting of the colors by Girl Scout Troop #5171.
Festivities will include a silent auction, live auction, and presentation of awards. A Homemade Salsa Competition will also be held during the evening with $150 being awarded to the winner.
A steak dinner will be served by Friona Junior High students and Friona High School FCCLA students. The steaks are provided by Cargill and will be cooked by Xcel Energy employees. Dinner rolls will be provided by Amigo’s of Hereford.
Little Miss Friona Ellie Jo Weatherly and Miss Friona Carly Drake will be introduced and Carly will perform. Entertainment will also be provided by Ballet Folklorico San José de Hereford, Texas.
Tickets for the Awards Banquet are $25 each. Gold sponsorships can be purchased for $500.00 and includes a reserved table for 8. Call the Friona Chamber office at 250-3491 for more information.
The annual banquet funds all Chamber events throughout the year including the Cheeseburger Festival, Miss Friona Scholarship Pageant, and Christmas in the Park.
Last year’s winners were: Larry Rector, Man of the Year; Sharon Rector, Woman of the Year; Fabiola Dominguez, Woman of the Year; Jennifer Baize, Employee of the Year; David Gonzales, Educator of the Year; Adriana Ortiz-Carrillo, Girl Student of the Year; Damian Rodriguez, Boy Student of the Year.
The Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors includes President Kathy Rector, VP Erika Carrillo, Jimmy Burns, Lee Davila, Wesley Drake, Sergio Mendez, Cindy Moreno, Crystal Moroney, Larry Rector, Varla Wilcox, Yvette Williams, and Bobby Tyler. Chris Alexander is the Executive Vice President, and Heather Grimsley is the Administrative Assistant.
