Commissioners approve road closure
The Parmer County Commissioners Court met in regular session on Monday, January 27th at 10:00 a.m. in the County Courtroom of the Parmer County Courthouse in Farwell, Texas. The meeting began with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and the Texas Flag.
There were no public comments. The Minutes from the previous meeting were read and approved. Commissioners approved the payment of the accounts payables as presented by County Treasurer Sharon May and the Treasurer’s Report was also approved.
Commissioners approved the closing of County Road B1. This short road just south of US Highway 60 runs east from County Road 28 and dead ends when it joins County Road 29. The road is seldom used and sits on the southwest side of Cattle Town. This is not an immediate process. Legal notices must be posted before any final action can be taken.
Approval was also given for an inter-local agreement between Parmer County and Potter County regarding proceeding and costs for court-ordered mental health services.
A new Road Use Agreement was approved. The new updated agreement was needed in case someone was interested in building a wind farm in Parmer County in the future.
Approval was given to Precinct 3 for the purchase of a pickup. Precinct 3 Commissioner Kenny White reported a Ford 3/4 ton crew cab from Bar W of Tulia for $29,053 with trade-in was chosen.
Sheriff Randy Geries reported that there had been a rise in burglaries in the past few weeks. He also reported that there are 20 inmates currently being held and 13 of those are from Deaf Smith County.
The Commissioner’s Court meeting set for Monday, February 10th was rescheduled for Friday, February 7th because Commissioners will be attending a conference on Tuesday, February 11th.
Judge Ellis said that he had received several phone calls concerning the new lights at the Cargill plant not flashing. He made a call to TXDOT representative Paul Gonzalez and was informed that the lights only flash during the shift changes at the plant. The new lights start flashing 30 minutes before, during, and for 30 minutes after each shift change.
