The Friona Chamber of Commerce needs your help. The Friona Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture’s Annual Banquet will be held on March 5, 2019 and this year’s theme is the Rockin 50’s. The Friona Chamber of Commerce is asking for donations. Your donations can be in the form of money or a prize to be auctioned at the event. There is no limit on the amount of money to donate. If you donate an item they ask that you give an approximate value t better help coordinate its auction. All donations need to be given to the Chamber before February 22, 2019. Businesses or individuals providing donations will be recognized and thanked for their generosity. For any questions, please call the Chamber at (806)250-3491.

The Panhandle Chapter of Texas Master Naturalists will hold an open house Monday, February 25 from 6:30 to 7 p.m. at the Southwest Branch Library at 6801 SW 45th in Amarillo, preceding the organization’s regular monthly meeting.

St. Teresa’s Catholic Church will be having their annual Mexican Dinner on Sunday, March 3, 2019. The event will be at 11:00 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the St. Teresa’s Parish Hall. The dinner will include; beef enchiladas, rice, beans, tacos, salsa, chips, dessert, tea, and coffee. Donations will be $12.00 for adults and $6 for children under 10. Take out plates will also be available.

Save the date for the Senior Steak Dinner. The event will be on Sunday, April 14 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. –at the Junior High Cafeteria. The cost of the tickets will be $15.00 Advance, and $16.00 Door. Senior Steak Dinner tickets will be available March 18. The proceeds will fund the Alcohol/Drug Free Graduation Celebration.

For the month of February, a once-a-week workshop on grief will be offered at the home of Mark and Deirdre Osborn. The event will take place every Sunday at 7:00 p.m. at 903 Arrah Ave, Friona Tx. If you, a friend, or loved one has been struggling with a recent loss and desire to learn positive coping strategies to deal with grief then this workshop is one that will be worth attending. The workshop material will be presented from a generalist perspective and is faith-based. A small group setting will be utilized to enable an enhanced workshop learning experience. Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative will award several $2,000 scholarships in May to eligible applicants of immediate families of active members and active employees of Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative. Applicants may be either traditional high school graduates or students wishing to continue their education after an extended absence. Applicants must be of good character as evidenced by at least three letters of recommendation from three different sources. Selection will be based on grade point average, community activities, service work and recommendations. Secondary criteria will include a written essay, SAT/ACT scores and academic honors. Applications may be obtained from area high schools, extension offices of Deaf Smith, Parmer, Castro and Oldham counties, or Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative’s office in Hereford, or on the web site www.deafsmith.coop. There is also information on the Golden Spread Electric Cooperative scholarship on this same web site and the deadline is March 1st of each year.

Applications must be received at P.O. Box 753, Hereford, TX 79045, or the offices of Deaf Smith Electric Cooperative, no later than March 8, 2019.

Awards will be announced within sixty days.
