National Doctor’s Day is on Friday, March 30, and in Friona, we will celebrate our physicians and their assistants with a reception in the lobby at Parmer Medical Center. Our community has been blessed with a hardworking and knowledgeable team of doctors who tirelessly serve the people of Friona and surrounding areas. My family has known firsthand the dedication of these doctors, as well as the entire PMC staff, and we couldn’t be more thankful for the compassion and kindness they give day after day. Join the reception from 1:00-2:00 p.m. and show your appreciation for our prized physicians.

I visited the Nutrition Spot for the first time last week and had a very positive experience. I was headed to an appointment on an empty stomach, so Delilah fixed me up with a shake full of nutrients that was also delicious. I chose the “Elvis”, which is a peanut butter and banana type shake, and it pretty well did the trick—a smooth and creamy delight that made me feel great after drinking! I enjoyed meeting Delilah, who runs the shop, and had a lovely time chatting. I can’t wait to go back and try some other flavors. If you haven’t checked out the Nutrition Spot, I would recommend it to anyone. She is open weekdays from 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m., from 5-8 p.m., and on Saturdays from 8-11:30 a.m.

America’s Run for the Fallen is an event set to be visiting Friona around mid-May. A group of runners called the Honor & Remember team has organized a 6,000-mile run of tribute honoring approximately 20,000 service member casualties recorded by the Department of Defense from October 12, 2000 to date. This includes every service member who died during the War on Terror while on active duty (or as a result of active duty), and includes all branches of service and all causes of death. Friona was selected as the first official overnight stop in Texas, so be on the lookout in upcoming weeks for news on the event and how you can be a part of it. Visit their website at www.runforthefallen.org for more information.

Friona was happy to have a little glimpse of rain this week—about .18 inches according to our local weatherman, John Gurley. It wasn’t a drought-buster by any means, but like my dad would always say, “We need the moisture!”
