Ron Carr inducted into PPA Hall of Fame
By Megan Carr
Last weekend, my family and I traveled to Childress, Texas to attend a dinner as part of the 108th Annual Panhandle Press Association Convention. We had received word that they were going to be inducting my dad, Ron Carr, as well as the late Jim Hudson, former publisher of the Perryton Herald, into the PPA Hall of Fame. This was a great honor, as we knew how dedicated and passionate our dad was for the press. He had submitted countless articles and photographs to the PPA, usually taking home a plaque or two for humor or headline writing, and loved being a part of the association.
The dinner was held on Friday night, March 23, at the 501 Winery in Childress, a lovely location with prize-winning wines. As we arrived, we were immediately greeted by the friendly face of Roger Estlack, editor and publisher of the Clarendon Enterprise. He was a good friend of our dad’s, and spoke kind words about him as he delivered the induction. He even repeated a joke of Ron’s that had the whole room laughing, which was the best feeling. We felt honored and proud of him as we accepted the award on his behalf, knowing that he deserved it and wishing he could have been there. We are so thankful for the Panhandle Press Association for welcoming us and sharing in honor of a man so loved, Ron Carr.
