4-H Gold Star Banquet

The 4-H District 2 Gold Star Banquet was held on November 19, 2018 at the Eberly Brooks Events Center in Lubbock, Texas. The banquet recognized those students who earned a 4-H Gold Star award. This award is the highest state level award in 4-H. The 4-H members must apply to be awarded the gold star and must meet certain requirements. These requirements include being a member of 4-H for at least three years, including the year of the award, being in at least the 9th grade, participating in at least three different projects, serving in leadership by being an officer or teen leader, participating in community service, and submitting a record book for the year of the award.

Each county is only allowed a certain number of possible winners for the award each year. This year Parmer County had two recipients: Adaline White, Friona 4-H, and Matthew Kube, Oklahoma Lane 4-H.

Adaline is the 16-year-old daughter of Bill and Jeri Lynn White. She is a junior at Friona High School. She has been in 4-H for nine years. Adaline has served as Friona 4-H club president, vice president, treasurer, and reporter. She has participated in swine, photography, food and nutrition, poultry, clothing and textiles, and livestock judging projects. Adaline helps pack bags for SnackPack4Kids, baked goods for and served at the county stock show concession stand, delivers sweat suits to Prairie Acres, and volunteers at the local animal shelter for her community service.

Matthew Kube is 17-year-old senior at Farwell High School and is the son of Weldon and Mary Kube. A nine-year member of 4-H, Matthew serves as vice president of the Oklahoma-Lane 4-H Club. He has participated in swine, swine skill-a-thon, livestock judging and pistol projects. Matthew placed flags at the cemetery in honor of veterans, delivered sweat suits for seniors to a local nursing home, and picked up trash along the highway in his service to the community.

During the Gold Star Banquet, the 4-H recognizes distinguished leaders who have made an important contribution to their local 4-H chapters. This year Parmer County recognized Lloyd and Janice Bradshaw. They have been 4-H leaders for more than 30 years, understand the importance and impact of the 4-H program, and encouraged numerous families to join 4-H. They support the idea of youth development in countless ways and inspire others to get involved.
