Brenda Sue "Suezy" Smith

Brenda Sue “Suezy” Smith, 75, longtime Bovina resident, died Wednesday, October 11, 2017 in Houston. Celebration of Life Services were held Monday, October 16, 2017 at the First Baptist Church in Bovina with Rev. Brett Hoyle, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Friona, and Christopher Estes of Houston, officiating. Burial followed in the Bovina Cemetery by Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home of Friona.

Suezy was born July 9, 1942 in Coleman, Texas to Herman Luther and Edna Shamblin Estes. She married Billy Smith September 9, 1961 in Bovina.

Suezy was very active in the Bovina community serving the Bovina Chamber, the Bovina Clinic Board, was voted past Bovina Woman of the Year and along with her husband received the Bovina Chamber Heritage Award most recently. She loved her family and traveling with them and friends. But, her pride was serving God for many years as Sunday School Teacher, Treasurer and other positions at the church where she was baptized many years ago, the First Baptist Church in Bovina.

She is preceded in death by her parents and one nephew, Lances Estes.

Survivors include her husband Billy of Bovina; two daughters, Arlene Brozek and husband Justin of Bovina, and Darlene Miller and husband Stan of Bovina; one son, Kevin Smith and wife Crystal of Hereford; one brother, Kenneth Estes and wife Ofelia of Bovina; along with six grandchildren, Jake and Justus Brozek, Hannah Sacco, Heather Seward, Robin Jack and Cutter Smith.

Joel Lytal

Funeral services for Joel Lytal, 71, a long-time Hereford resident, were held Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at Central Church of Christ, with John Henley, minister, officiating. Interment followed at West Park Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Parkside Chapel Funeral Home.

Joel Lynn Lytal was born January 12, 1946 to Jesse Norman and Wanda Regina Ingram Lytal. The family moved to the Hereford area in 1950 from Wolfe City. He attended Hereford School’s and graduated in 1964. Joel met and fell in love with Martha Hudson and were married on July 15, 1965 in Vega, Texas. He worked as a truck driver for Kendrick Oil and farmed for 35 years. Mr. Lytal was a member of Central Church of Christ. He will be remembered by his family as a loving, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife Martha, of Hereford; two sons, Joel Mark Lytal and wife Pam of Canyon, and Jason Mack Lytal and wife Lauren of Bushland; two daughters, Manda Liane Gowdy and husband Jimmy of Borger and Jo D’Lyn Osborn and husband Matt of Friona; one brother, Billy Lytal and wife Sammie of Hereford; one sister, Peggy Fox of Hereford; ten grandchildren, Carter, Caysen, Cally, Tate and wife Alex, Tanner, Sawyer and wife Kelci, Sterling, Karlee, Jolee, Halle; and one great-granddaughter, Paisley.

The family suggests Memorials in Mr. Lytal’s name be made to Central Church of Christ, 148 Sunset Drive, Hereford, Texas 79045.

Dora Beatriz Cruz Garcia

Dora Beatriz Cruz Garcia, 30, of Friona, Texas, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2017. There will be a Visitation on Thursday, October 19 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bovina, Texas.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held Friday, October 20 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bovina, Texas. Burial will follow at Bovina Cemetery.

Dora was born on September 30, 1987 to Fernando Luis Garcia and Thomasa Martinez in Colima, Mexico. She married Jose Florencio Cruz Rocha and is the mother of two children Joshua Garcia and Arianne Cruz.

She is survived by her husband and children, as well as by her brother Miguel Garcia and her sister Maria Garcia. Her mother-in-law Ofelia Cruz, also survives her.

Mildred Lorene Mingus Agee

Mildred Lorene Mingus Agee, 87, of Jourdanton, TX, formerly a longtime resident of Friona, died October 15, 2017, in Jourdanton. Celebration of Life services have been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 20, 2017 at the Friona Cemetery Memorial Chapel with Rev. Brett Hoyle, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Friona. Burial will follow in the Friona Cemetery by Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home of Friona.

Mildred was born March 20, 1930 on the family farm in Friona to George and Ethel Young Mingus. She married Maynard Agee on March 20, 1948, in Clovis NM. They were married for 69 years, living all but 4 years of their life in Friona until February 2013, when they moved to Jourdanton with their daughter Krystal Huschke and husband Alvin.

She was a retired secretary from Hub Grain Co. where she worked for 30 years.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Elsie Allen; three brothers, Lloyd, Glen and Ernest; and a 2 ½ month old great granddaughter, Scarlett Grace Huschke, who passed away on September 27, 2017.

She is survived by her husband, Maynard of Jourdanton; two daughters, Karen Barnwell Allen of Abilene, TX and Krystal Huschke and husband Alvin of Jourdanton; one son, Dean Agee and wife Jan of Amarillo, TX; eight grandchildren, Brian Barnwell and wife April of Clovis NM, Tonya Purvine and husband Daniel of Abilene, Davin Agee and wife Loretta of Amarillo, Dustin Buehrer and wife Megan of Pleasanton, TX, Keya Buehrer and Brandon Heckman of Jourdanton, Chance Huschke and Nikki Carpenter of Pleasanton, Kelsie Ahrens and husband Jeff of Colorado Springs, CO and Steve Bowers of Amarillo; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be: Brian Barnwell, Davin Agee, Dustin Buehrer, Coleten Agee, Daniel Purvine and Brandon Heckman.
