Note from City Manager Lee Davila — “We’re shaking off the dust and bringing back a Friona Classic! This Maize Days, we will be reintroducing a high school class competition by launching the inaugural High School Class Bed Race! The Friona Chamber of Commerce has purchased 4 beds for each high school class to use in the competition. The race will take place at the conclusion of the parade.”

The Friona Volunteer Fire Department is selling tickets for their annual Maize Days Drawing. The prize this year is a UTV and Trailer. Tickets are $10 each and can be purchased from any member of the fire department. The drawing will be held at 1:00 p.m. on September 14 in the city park.

The Friona Vocational Agriculture Association is holding a fundraiser to benefit the FFA programs and for a $10 donation you have four chances to win a ¼ beef donated by Ritchie Herring Farms. The drawing will be held at 1:00 p.m. on September 14th in the city park. For information call the Friona Wheat Growers at 250-3211.

American Legion Post #206 members are selling tickets for a chance to win a quilt made by Kathy Rector, a $100 gift card, or a Hoverboard. Tickets are $5 each or 5 tickets for $20. The drawing will be held at 1:00 p.m. on September 14th in the city park. Proceeds will help send students to Boys State and Girls State.
