FHS mascot Magdalena Licerio led the Fighting Cheiftains onto the field to start the 2019 football season last Friday night. The Chieftains struck early and often with a withering offense in route to a decisive 61-6 victory over their Highway 60 rivals, the Farwell Steers. Friona had 562 total yards of offense with only three penalties. The Chiefs travel to Bovina this week to play another Highway 60 team. The game starts at 7:30 and Cargill is cooking hamburgers for all the fans.

2019 Maize Days Celebration begins with
Miss Friona/Little Miss Friona Pageant
The 63rd Annual Maize Days Celebration starts this week. Festivities will be held from September 7th through September 14th. “Fiesta Friona” is the theme this year and the Friona Chamber of Commerce encourages everyone to develop their own “fiesta attitude” during the week.

Xcel Energy customers will receive refunds this month
Xcel Energy’s Texas customers will see a credit on their electric bills this month that reflect a one-time $16 million fuel cost refund announced in June.
