City proposes garage sale ordinance
The City of Friona is proposing a garage sale ordinance for the public’s input and consideration. This is an extension of the community-wide campaign, “Keep Friona Clean.”
Proposed Garage Sale Ordinance for the City of Friona
The details of the ordinance are outlined below:
• A permit will now be required in order to set up any sort of garage sale, yard sale, moving sale, or any other sale of tangible personal property.
• A permit will need to be filled out at City Hall.
• There is no fee to obtain a permit, however, it is limited to 4 permits per calendar year per person or premise.
• No garage sale shall extend for a period longer than 3 days.
• Signs are prohibited on public places, sidewalks, utility poles, or any place that can impair or obstruct traffic, but are permitted to be posted on the location of where the sale is to take place only for the duration of the sale.
• Signs are to be taken down after the conclusion of such sales.
• Any person found in violation of any provision mentioned above of this ordinance can be fined a penalty of $500.
