The Annual Community Thanksgiving Service will be held on Sunday, November 24th at 6:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Friona located at 404 W. 5th. This special community service is hosted by Friona Christian Ministries, and is an uplifting time of worshipping the Lord Jesus as a community of believers. A special offering will be taken which will be used throughout the year to help people in our community with basic needs. Everyone is invited to attend this Christian worship service and there will also be a time of fellowship immediately following the service. (more...)

Chieftains defeat Anson 37-22

Jacob Bautista (above) rushed for 354 yards and five touchdowns as the Friona Chieftains defeated the Anson Tigers 37-22 Friday night in a Bi-District playoff game held in Post, Texas. Anson (7-3) won the coin toss and elected to kick. The Tigers held the Chiefs to three plays and, after a short punt, they capitalized on the great field position and scored the opening touchdown of the game. In the second quarter, Jose Grado threw a short pass to Jose Rodriguez who then pitched the ball back to Jacob Bautista on a mini “flea-flicker” play catching the Anson defenders by surprise. Jacob ran 50 yards for Friona’s first score of the game. Jacob scored on a 64 yard run to put the Chiefs up 12-7 but Anson scored on a pass play and led 14-12 at halftime. (more...)

Enrique Rodriguez won the $150 Grand Prize in the Friona Star 2019 Football Contest. His final point total was 99 which was two points ahead of Mal Manchee and Laura Field. Mal and Laura tied with 97 points each so the cumulative tiebreaker scores for the year were used to determine 2nd and 3rd place. Mal’s tiebreaker scores were 233 points off for the year and he won the $100 2nd Place Grand Prize. Laura’s scores were 238 points off and she won the $50 3rd Place Grand Prize. (more...)

Dear Friona Star, We are the 4th grade “Write” Way Club. The 4th graders are making stockings for soldiers. We are fillings up 12 stockings with things soldiers need.
