Dixie Lee Malcom Carson
Dixie Lee Malcom Carson, 93, longtime Bovina resident passed away October 2, 2019 in Friona. Viewing will be held Sunday, October 6, 2019 from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with family visitation from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. in the Ron Smiley Memorial Chapel of HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home. Celebration of Life Services have been scheduled for 10:00 A.M. Monday, October 7, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Bovina with Galen Hromas, officiating. Burial following in the Bovina Cemetery by HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.
Dixie was born November 4, 1925 in Marlow, Oklahoma to William Earl and Francis Elizabeth Stephens Malcom. Dixie spent her childhood years in the Marlow area, graduating from Central High School in 1944. After high school, she moved to Oklahoma City to work for the telephone company. When her mother became ill, she returned home and stayed to help with her two younger brothers.
She married Marion H. “Shorty” Carson January 31, 1947 in Wichita Falls, Texas and moved to Bovina where she assisted him in farming, dairy, a milk hauling business, and ranching. Dixie cherished her 72 years living and raising her five children in the Bovina community. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bovina her entire time here and was active in the Women’s Missionary Union. Dixie and M.H. were active & contributing members to the community during their first four decades in Bovina. Dixie was instrumental in the success of the local 4-H Club and was a member of the Cowbelles, Dixie was heavily involved in their farming & ranching but her pride were her kids and their activities. Later, she especially adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Dixie is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son-Gary Stephen Carson, 3 brothers-Dale Malcom, Donald Malcom and Laxton Malcom, and 2 sisters-Roberta Malcom Moss and Mary Jo Malcom Seibold.
She is survived by 1 brother-Bill Malcom and wife Donna of Ponder, Texas, 1 sister-in-law-Jewel Carson Carter of Powell, Wyoming. Those left to carry on her legacy include: 3 sons-Richard Lynn Carson of Bovina, Alan Dale Carson and wife Casey of Rio Rancho, N.M., and Galen Charles Carson and wife Pam of Concordia, Missouri, 1 daughter-Joan Carol Carson Strawn and her husband, Mike of Cedar Park, Texas; as well as her grandchildren, Jared Carson; Erin Carson Harrington, husband Tom: Michael Carson; Kristen Carson; Chrysta (Kit) Carson; Cody Carson, wife Amy Archibeque; Caleb Strawn, wife Meagan; Joel & Molly Moenkhoff; Justin & Natalie Moenkhoff; Joshua Moenkhoff; Jacob Moenkhoff; and Jarod & Stephanie Moenkhoff. Great-grandchildren-Grayson and Hadley Carson, Sophia and Josiah Arko, Jericho and Dysen Wilson, Hannah Harrington, Rockne and Ryman Moenkhoff, Lincoln & Layne Moenkhoff, and Timber & Oakley Moenkhoff, and Lynox Moenkhoff. Dixie also cherished and has remained very close to her many nieces and nephews.
