Your chance to give…and you did!!!
Whenever you donate to a “good cause” you know your contribution will be used wisely and there is no need to worry about waste or abuse. However, it is always comforting to know how much was raised and how it was spent. A lot of people “benefit” much more by giving that they do by receiving so for them we have compiled the following results.
Project Christmas Card
The Parmer County Auxiliary asked for donations to help purchase a portable Electrocardiograph machine for the hospital. The machine is used to record electrical activity of the heart and the test is conducted by doctors to check for signs of heart disease. Connie Neelley reported that $2,403.09 had been collected to help with the purchase. She would like to thank everyone who made a donation.
Empty Stocking Fund
Donations to this fund were used to provide clothing and accessories to local needy children. School officials were consulted to determine the recipients. Holly Campbell and Jyl Grimsley reported that 71 kids received new jeans, shirts, cologne, and other items. They also would like to thank everyone that contributed to the fund.
Christmas Gift Drive for Prairie Acres
The Friona Police Department held its first annual Christmas Gift Drive for Prairie Acres.
Sleepwear, blankets, gloves, shoes, and other clothing was given to each of the 39 residents during a Christmas party held in the dining hall at the facility. Chief Jimenez and his officers were overwhelmed by the generous response from the community and definitely plan to make it an annual event.
Adopt a Tree Canned Food Benefit
The Friona Chamber of Commerce held canned food benefit during Christmas in Park at the first part of December. Hi-Pro Feeds won the event with over 190 cans of food at their tree and a grand total of 225 cans of food were collected and taken to the Calvary Baptist Church food pantry for distribution.
