Mayor signs Prairie Acres letter of intent
The Friona city council met in regular session Monday July 13 with all members present, Mayor Rick White presiding.
The first agenda item was a public hearing on the city's water quality report. No member of the public was present.
Chief Isidro Jimenez gave the monthly activity report. They made 17 arrests, including 3 for felony. Officers made 145 traffic stops. Seven were for driving without a license. Two child abandonment arrests were made. In one instance officers found a three-year-old child at Lowe's unaccompanied. It made its way to the grocery store from the 600 block of Grand.
City manager Patricia Phipps and deputy city secretary Rosa Mendez will attend a legislative update conference in August in San Marcos.
Council approved a variance for Jaime Cigarroa for a carport at 1207 White. Gary Johnson, maintenance head at Prairie Acres, addressed the council about the need for roofing in three areas at the nursing home. The city manager will post a bid notice in the Friona Star to receive bids for the roofing project.
Mayor Rick White was authorized by vote of the council to sign a letter of intent between Parmer Medical Center and Prairie Acres for the hospital's ownership takeover of Prairie Acres. The mayor also signed an agreement for operation of Prairie Acres/Heritage Estates to be assumed by Senior Health Services, Diakonos LLC effective August 1.
The council went into executive session about 7:15 p.m. for the annual evaluation of the city manager. The next meeting of the city council will be Monday August 10 at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers, 619 Main St. All council meetings are open to the public.
