Tough as nails and a heart of gold. That would be Mary Stone who is retiring after 29 years with Friona ISD. Mary is one of the nicest people I know. It has been my privilege to know and work with Mary for many years at various school activities. She has served as chief custodian, bus driver, ticket taker, and a motivator for school staff and students. All the best to Mary and Wayne. Enjoy your retirement years.

The January 2015 Friona ISD school calendar is in this Star. You might want to clip it out and stick it on your bulletin board or fridge. From January through May school activities increase in frequency. In short, these next five months will be a flurry of student activities. I know it sounds cruel but graduation for the Class of 2015 is fast approaching. Check out the Star each week for the latest in old news.

Received a subscription renewal from the Larry Crow family down in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Appreciate them and all of our Star subscribers. Guess the Crows can sit out on the deck and enjoy the Star and the view. Thanks.

The next Friona blood drive is Thursday January 15 from noon to 7 p.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. Friona residents consistently give 50 to 70 donations. By comparison, the recent blood drive in Hereford had 46 donations. Hereford is over three times the population of Friona. Watch for blood drive details in the January 8 Friona Star. Thanks for your 2014 blood donations. Keep it up in 2015.
