FHS athletes recognized at All-Sports Awards Banquet
Friona High School athletes were celebrated by the Chieftain-Squaw Boosters on Tuesday, May 13 at the FHS All-Sports Awards Program held at the Junior High cafeteria and auditorium.
Robert Kerby, Victory Family Worship Center pastor, offered the prayer before the meal was served.
The awards portion of the evening began with a moving speech to the athletes by FHS Athletic Director Michael Prokop.
Cross Country Coach Cindy Moreno presented awards to Alexis Alvarado and Armando Flores as outstanding members of the team.
Cheerleading sponsor Amber Drake recognized the Junior Varsity, Varsity and Mascot for their efforts to support school spirit at all sporting events.
Coach Vanessa O’Neal praised the Girl’s Volleyball C-team for their efforts during the 2013-14 season. Coach Daniel Ray recognized the Girl’s Junior Varsity Volleyball team.
Girls Varsity Volleyball coach Bryan Masse recognized the 2013-14 team and presented Kendall Kimbrough as the Outstanding Player of the Year.
The Junior Varsity Football team was recognized.
AD Prokop praised the Varsity Football team. Awards were given to Ediladio Garcia for Running Back, Jacob Osborn for Offensive Lineman, Abel Palacios for Defensive Lineman and Brad Stowers for Defensive Back. Sammy Silva was recognized for his touchdown against Idalou.
Coach Moreno recognized the Junior Varsity Basketball C-team for their commendable efforts during the season.
Coach O’Neal praised the Junior Varsity Basketball Girls Team.
Coach Ray spoke eloquently about the 2013-14 Varsity Girls Basketball team before naming Kendall Kimbrough as the Player of the Year.
Coach Ross Prokop, Freshman Boys Basketball, introduced the Freshman team.
Coach Chris Ruckman recognized the Boys Junior Varsity Basketball team.
Varsity Boys Basketball Coach David Woods presented the Defensive award to Brad Stowers and the Offensive award to Cole Stowers.
FHS Powerlifting coaches Daniel Hutchins and David Towner presented Bianca Arellano and Edgar Guererro the Powerlifting Athletes of the Year award.
Varsity Girls Golf Coach Quiroz presented Breanna Campos with the Girls Golf award.
Coach Woods presented Gavin Douglas the Boys Varsity Golf award.
Varsity Tennis coach Bryan Masse presented Jessica Vital and Isaac Gallardo with the Tennis award.
Girls Varsity Track and Field coach Darrel Ray presented Arianna Moreno with the Track and Field award.
The Varsity and Junior Varsity Boys Field and Track were recognized by Coach Ross Prokop. Aran Ramirez and Abayomi Salinas were recognized for the Boys Varsity Track and Field award.
Coach Styler Haddock recognized the Varsity Boys Baseball team for their outstanding season and for winning the first baseball playoff game in FHS history. Hunter Sundre was named Player of the Year.
Kendall Kimbrough was named the 2013-14 Fighting Squaw and Abayomi Salinas was named the 2013-14 Fighting Chieftain.
Alexis Alvarado and Jose Zamudio were given the Fighting Heart Award.
The evening closed with a Senior Spotlight highlighting the 2014 Senior athletes and their achievements while at Friona High School.
