Chiefs lose to Roosevelt 19-14
The Chieftains closed out the non-district schedule with a narrow 19-14 homecoming loss to the Lubbock Roosevelt Eagles. The Chiefs led 7-6 until the fourth quarter but Roosevelt put up 13 points to Friona's 7. Friona won the rushing battle, outgaining Roosevelt 216 to 110 yards.
Quarterback Dallin Woods led rushers with 113 yards on 11 carries. Gabriel Chico carried 17 times for 73 yards and two touchdowns. Luis Trejo had 6 carries for 30 yards.
Roosevelt dominated the passing game with 124 yards to Friona's 41 but the Chiefs had the edge in total offense 257 to 234. Dallin Woods completed 4 of 13 passes for 41 yards and one interception. Catches were made by Justin Rocha, Chris Alvarez, Gabriel Rocha, and Antonio Adame.
On defense, Justin Rocha had a pass interception. Antonio Adame was credited with 9 tackles including 6 solo tackles. Edgar Guerrero had 2 solo tackles and was credited with 5.5 total.
The Chiefs finish the first half of the schedule with a 1-4 record. They will host the Dimmitt Bobcats Friday October 10 to open district play. The Bobcats come in with a 1-4 record also. The Chief schedule for the rest of the year will be at Muleshoe Oct 17, River Road here Oct 24 Pink Out Night, Littlefield here Oct 31 senior parent night, and at Childress Nov 7.
