Class of '63 has 50-year reunion

The Class of 1963 met July 20 for its 50th class reunion. Of the 51 graduates, 22 attended. Exchange student Eve Braunschweiger and husband Blasé traveled from Basel, Switzerland. Eve lived with the Ernest Osborn family while she attended school here and has been back to Friona many times.
Robert Houlette and his wife Rena of Dumas attended. Robert graduated from Dumas but still claims Friona as his home town. Others attending were:
David Talley, Tommy and Diane Tatum, Keith and Pat Blackburn, Mary and Roddy Yaksich, Dewain and Sherry Phipps, Janet and Joby Claborn, Rex and Darla Bracken, Kay and Don Cash, Joy Osborn.
Also, Iva and John Foster, Kay Van Valkenburg, Sharon and Teddy White, Martha and Butch Barker, Larry and Judy Potts, Angel and Julie Alemon, Gayle and Dwight O’Brian, Max Reeve, and Jimmy Schilling.
Of the 51 graduates, eight are deceased. They are Cynthia Guinn Bishop, Freddy Beaty, Wayne Cason, Johnny Tannahill, Danny Carmichael, Patty Fallwell Coulter, Willene Baxter Grundy, and Earl Crow.
Several attended the Cheeseburger Cook-Off and Car Show and spent time enjoying the newly air-conditioned Parmer County Museum. The main event was held Saturday evening at the Country Rose Wedding and Event Center on the Charles Ray farm at Summerfield. Canna Ray catered the meal.
Class members and spouses enjoyed a delicious meal, lots of visiting, and the very loud firing of the cannon belonging to Keith Blackburn. On Sunday several went to the Umbarger Catholic Church to see the murals painted by the World War II Italian POWs. The group also visited the Memorial Chapel near Hereford built in memory of the five prisoners who died while in the camp.
