Enjoyed a Thanksgiving weekend in Denton. My daughter Megan lives there and goes to UNT. My son Casey lives in Frisco and oldest daughter Candee lives in Coppell so Denton was a central location for visiting. Son Zac came up from Austin for a short visit too. I left here on Thanksgiving day so avoided a lot of traffic. Was grateful for all the places that were open along the way for fuel and snacks.

Is anyone else tired of hearing about the impending fiscal cliff? Everyone is predicting gloom and doom but no one really knows what they are talking about, especially our politicians. Oh the agony of it all.

Don’t forget about the Farwell Country Jubilee Craft Show this weekend at the Farwell Community Center. Information about Monday’s Christmas in the Park is in this issue. Dana Campbell has worked hard to put together what looks like a fun evening. Santa will be there at 5:30 p.m. A list of the activities available is printed elsewhere in this Star. I’m thinking the hot chocolate and chili and beans will be on my list. Come on out for at least an hour or so and support the folks that have worked to make Christmas in the Park more than just a Santa visit. We will see you there.

Please note that the Santa letter deadline this year is Monday December 10. Letters received after that may or may not make it to the North Pole on time. Santa letters will be printed in the Dec 13 and Dec 20 Friona Star. Reminder: we will not be printing a newspaper the week of Dec 27. We are taking the Christmas week off.

I stopped by Ingram’s and Ivy Cottage open houses Tuesday. Sylvia and Misty and their helpers are such an asset to the community. Of course I sampled plates of goodies at both places. They were both busy places. I managed to knock over a big metal butterfly at Ingram’s. If you didn’t make it by go check them out for Christmas shopping. Sylvia will be open later on Monday during the Christmas in the Park event.

I also moseyed out to Parmer County Implement this week. If you’ve got some little farmers in your family go check out their toy tractors and other gift items. They say their Yeti coolers are top of the line and would be a great gift for that tailgater, hunter, or fisherman in the family.

After 7 or 8 years my favorite Land’s End jacket wore out. Lost the zipper pull somewhere. So I ordered another one of the same Squall jackets online plus a lighter fleece jacket. Got a 30% discount and free shipping. Land’s End has some nice stuff. And ordering online is really nice for a lazy old coot like me. Included with the shipment was a label to use in case I wanted to send them back for some reason. Nice customer service gesture. Also did some shopping in Denton. Bought several long sleeved shirts at Macy’s in a half-price discount sale. It is the shopping time of year.
