Grief and the holidays workshop
Often times after death loss in a family the holidays are not welcomed. Instead, one might refer to the holidays of being a time of enhanced sorrow and sadness. The phrase ‘good grief’ it’s a holiday may be used out of frustration and ongoing grief.
This workshop will address issues focused on having the holidays, dealing with grief, and working towards grief recovery. Even though the subject matter is heavy the guest speaker is able to present material that ‘lightens the moment’. Material will be presented on tips that lead to grief recovery instead of reactive grief that lingers on and leads to someone saying ‘good grief I dread the holidays’.
Danny Mize will present Grief and the Holidays, Sunday, November 13, 2016 at Friona Heritage Estates Day Room.
Danny Mize, MA, MRE, has thirty years of training and experience in supporting grieving people. Several personal family losses prompted him to begin offering grief support to others.
Following the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, Mize became co-founder of a family grief center in Edmond, Oklahoma, The Kids’ Place, which he directed for ten years. In that role, he facilitated grief groups and trained volunteers to better understand and support grieving children, adolescents, and their adult caregivers.
Mize is retired from the position of Bereavement Coordinator with Hospice of the Southwest and is currently the pastor at Fellowship of Believer’s Church in Hereford, Texas. Please join us Sunday, November 13 at 2 p.m. There will be a dessert buffet for refreshments. This event is sponsored by Bluebonnet Home Health and Hospice and is open to the public.
