Council agenda includes annexing the golf course
The Friona city council will meet in regular session Monday October 7 at 6:30 p.m. in council chambers, 619 Main St. All council meetings are open to the public.
This will be the first council meeting of the new fiscal year, October 1, 2013 to September 30, 2014. City offices were closed Monday, September 30 to attend to the business of closing out the recent fiscal year.
On the council agenda will be approving the minutes of the regular September meeting and a couple of special meetings and designating the Friona Star as the city’s official newspaper. The designation is an annual requirement.
Two candidates to serve on the Parmer County Appraisal district board of directors will be selected. A report from Police Chief Frank Mooney about department activities, personnel, and expenses will be heard. Accounts payable and financial statements for September and the 4th quarter will be discussed for approval.
A request for variance for a carport to be built at 510 W. 5th by Jeanette Gonzalez and Francisco Sanchez will be considered. Manuel and Elvira Arellano are requesting their property at 2449 County Road 19 (Cemetery Road) be annexed to the city to receive water service.
Another interesting request from Jerry Marquez and Ricky Cantu will be heard. They are requesting to annex the 80 acre golf course into the city limits of Friona and help develop modular homes on the golf course and have utility services such as water, sewer, and trash.
The agenda items above make up the tentative agenda for the October 7 meeting and are subject to change. The final and official agenda is posted on the front window of city hall on Friday, 72 hours prior to the meeting.
