Chieftains receive 4 selections on TSWA Class 3A All-State Football Team
The Friona Chieftains received four selections on the 2019 Texas Sports Writers Association Class 3A All-State Football Team that was announced on February 12th.
Sophomore running back Jacob Bautista was a TSWA All-State 2nd Team selection. He set two school records by rushing for 2,091 yards and scoring 158 points. Jacob was a 2nd Team Offense All-District selection.
Receiving TSWA All-State honorable mention honors were senior guard Marcos Juarez, senior linebacker Roger Palacios, and junior defensive back Juan Salinas.
Marcos Juarez was part of an offensive line that helped power the Chieftains to set 5 new school records and reach the Regional Semifinal playoff game. Marcos was a unanimous 1st Team Offense All-District selection.
Roger Palacios was an outside linebacker who had 96 total tackles for the season. Amazingly, 23 of those tackles were behind the line of scrimmage for a net loss. Roger was also a unanimous 1st Team Defense All-District selection.
Juan Salinas was the leading tackler for the Chieftains with 115 tackles. Of that total, 52 were unassisted or solo tackles. He also had 63 assisted tackles, caused 2 fumbles, and recorded 4 interceptions.
