Deaf Smith County will celebrate its agriculture heritage and the steel plowhorses that have helped to achieve it at a Tractors in the Park Jubilee and Festival Saturday, June 22 in downtown Hereford and at Dameron Park and the Hereford Community Center. The event, sponsored by the Deaf Smith County Historical Society will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will include a tractor parade and show, food vendors, games, a volleyball tournament, a toy meet and an arts and crafts show.

Friona Kidz Building Camp coming soon
The 4th Annual Friona Kidz Building Camp is scheduled for July 9-13 at 603 W. 15th in Friona (Boy Scout Hut). The camp will be held each evening from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and there will be a sleep over on the night of the 12th followed by a breakfast on the morning of the 13th. The age range for participants is 5 years old to 12 years old. There is no cost to attend the camp. Tools and materials will be provided to all of the participants. The event will feature creativity, food, music, fun, and games. The camp is free to the public and volunteers are needed. Cheeseburger Festival has new time and location
The 14th Annual Cheeseburger Festival and Cook-Off hosted by the Friona Chamber of Commerce and Ag is set for Saturday, July 20, 2019. This year, the event will run from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and will be held at the Reeve Lake/Community Event Center complex in the heart of the Cheeseburger Capital of Texas. Save the date and grab your buns!!!

Progression of Education
Maria “Dora” Mejia was a widow and illiterate. Luckily, neither of those obstacles hindered her instinct to seek a better life for herself and her children. In 1972, she moved the family from California to Texas hoping that the endless horizons of the Texas panhandle would bring endless opportunities for her ten sons and two daughters. Even though she never earned a diploma, she knew that education was the key to success.
