The National English Honor Society at Friona High School needs your help! They are collecting money to buy books for a school destroyed by Hurricane Michael last fall. Former FJHS teachers’ assistant, Donna Mullins, works at this Panama City, Florida, school. Mrs. Mullins was instrumental in starting Friona’s Special Olympics, which continues to be successful today. One of the biggest supporters of this program was Barbara Curry, an eighth grade English teacher who died of cancer while teaching in Friona. The local chapter of NEHS is named in her honor. They are working with an organization which will let Mrs. Mullins and the teachers at her school choose inexpensive, high quality used books. Shipping will be free if a certain amount is purchased. If you would like to help with this project, please send your donations to Friona High School, attention NEHS, or leave them in the collection box at the public library or at the school. The deadline is February 8th. Thanks for helping us with this literacy project.
