Victoria Williams crowned Miss Friona

The 62nd Annual Maize Days Celebration rocked Friday night as eighteen young ladies took to the stage at the Friona High School auditorium to compete for the title of Miss Friona. Poise, elegance, talent, and communication skills were all part of the mix. Earlier in the day, the contestants had a luncheon and interviews with the judges at the Depot in the City Park. The main event, however, was at the auditorium where friends and family cheered on their favorite contestant as Emcee Ed Caffrey conducted the big show and Bethanie Baker, Barbara Ann Jenkins, and Sasha Prosser judged the top hits. Victoria Williams, 17 year old daughter of Billy and Stephanie Williams, was named the 2018 Miss Friona. She was crowned by 2017 Miss Friona, Brooklynne Johnston. Victoria was sponsored by Parmer County Implement and won a $1000 scholarship. She also won a $200 scholarship for her interview.

Miranda Rivera, 17 year old daughter of Antonio and Maria Rivera, was named the 1st runner-up and won a $700 scholarship. Miranda was also named Miss Congeniality and won a $200 scholarship. She was sponsored by Parmer County Texas Farm Bureau.

Carly Drake, 17 year old daughter of Wes and Amber Drake, was the 2nd runner-up and won a $500 scholarship. Carly also won a $200 scholarship for evening gown. She was sponsored by Darrel & Pam Ray.

Kessly Salinas, 17 year old daughter of Aaron and Rufina Salinas, was the 3rd runner-up and won a $200 scholarship. She won another $200 scholarship for her talent. She was sponsored by Attebury Grain.

Adriana Ortiz-Carrillo, 17 year old daughter of Erika Carrillo and Ramon Ortiz, was the 4th runner-up and won a $200 scholarship. She was sponsored by Parmer Medical Center.

Nancy Rocha, 16 year old daughter of Rafael and Guadalupe Rocha, won a $200 scholarship for her answer to the on-stage question. She was sponsored by Los Arcos Restaurant.

All Miss Friona contestants received a $100 scholarship for their participation in the scholarship pageant.

Scholarships for the Miss Friona Pageant were provided by donations from the following: Parmer Medical Center, Parmer County Implement, A-1 Service Center, Hi-Pro Feeds, Kendrick Oil Co., Parmer County Farm Bureau, Wilbur-Ellis Co., Legacy Pump & Irrigation, Bi-Wize Pharmacy, Farmer’s Co-Op Gin, K-3 Towing, Del Rio Dairy, Ivy Cottage, King Country Trailers, TW&M LLC, Interbank, Blue Sky Farms, Chico’s Welding Construction Inc., and Benchmark Business Solutions.

Sarai Chavarria named Little Miss



Twelve little girls participated in the 2018 Little Miss Event. Sarai Chavarria, six year old daughter of Salvador and Teresa Chavarria, was named 2018 Little Miss Friona. Sarai was sponsored by M.R. Trucking. She was crowned by the 2017 Little Miss, Abigail Guerra.

Ellie Jo Weatherly, five year old daughter of Landon and Jacy Weatherly, was the 1st runner-up and was sponsored by 5W Sales, Co.

Brynlee Smith, six year old daughter of Shay and Ashley Smith, was the 2nd runner-up and was sponsored by Friona Draw Driving School.
