One of these 18 young ladies will be crowned Miss Friona this Friday night when the Miss Friona Scholarship Pageant “rocks” the start of the Annual Maize Days Celebration. A Little Miss will also be crowned and there are 12 little girls participating this year. Please see our special section which previews all of the contestants in both events. Friona Resident Sandra Randall is a blood cancer patient and she would like us to know how important this month is. September is Blood Cancer Awareness Month. Sandra words of wisdom are “don’t judge people on how they look because you don’t know of how they feel inside”. Sandra would like to spread the word about Myeloproliferative Neoplams (MPN) and to remind patients and caregivers that they are not alone. During the month of September, the MPN is raising money to fund on the latest research and will be having educational information to share. MPN Awareness Day is on Friday, September 14. Your donations will be appreciated.

Miss Friona Pageant kicks off 2018 Maize Days Celebration
The 62nd Annual Maize Days Celebration is just around the corner. Festivities will be held from September 15th through September 22nd. “Friona Rocks” is the theme this year and the Friona Chamber of Commerce would like to encourage everyone to adopt a 50s rock ‘n roll attitude during the week.

The United Way will hold a Board Meeting at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 18th at the Redeemer Center located at 1304 Virginia Avenue.
Friona has a phishing problem
There has been an outbreak of computer scammers in Friona recently. Marca Herring at Friona Interbank called and told us that several people have had to close their accounts because of the problem. While viruses can be bad, phishing is the larger issue.
