County Commissioners adopt 2019 budget
Comissioners also lower tax rate
The Parmer County Commissioners Court met in regular session on Monday, August 27 at 10:00 a.m. in the County Courtroom of the Parmer County Courthouse in Farwell, Texas. All commissioners were present. The meeting began with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag and the Texas Flag.
The first item of business was a discussion of an amendment to the Lease Agreement with K&T Energy of Albuquerque, New Mexico. The lease involves the Permanent School Fund Land in Gaines County, Texas. Toby Martinez, a representative from K&T, proposed a 90-day extension before the start of the lease. In exchange for the extension, K&T Energy would agree to increase their payment from $355 per acre to $450 per acre. The Commissioners voted to grant the extension.
Next, the Court voted to approve the implementation of Video Magistration for all three of the Justices of the Peace in Parmer County. The Court also approved the Minutes from the previous meeting and approved payments for the accounts payable and payroll disbursement for employees and elected officials.
The Commissioners next approved the 2019 Parmer County Budget and ordered that the 2018 tax rate be set at $0.5492/$100 valuation. This new rate represents a small reduction from last year’s rate.
The Court next approved a joint election with the Hereford School District in the upcoming November election. A small number of individuals who reside in the extreme northeast corner of Parmer County are in the Hereford School District. This joint election agreement will allow them to vote in the regular election and in the HISD election at one location. The Court also approved a $100/month increase in rent for the JP and DPS offices in Friona. Also approved was a small increase in insurance for elected officials and employees.
All votes in this session were unanimous.
