Wanda Lucille Bishop Phipps was born to J.D. and Flora Baker on March 12, 1930 in Littlefield, TX. She graduated high school in Littlefield in 1947. She married Stanley Bishop on December 28, 1946. She and Stanley farmed in Littlefield until 1957 at which time they moved to Friona. They continued to farm until 1980. She could always be found in the kitchen where she was preparing meals for everyone. She loved having company and she and Stanley hosted many hunters so the table was always full of guests. She loved trying new dishes and her kitchen was filled with every kind of cookbook you can imagine.

Stanley passed away in 1980, leaving a big void in her life. God would bless her again by bringing Virgil Phipps into her life. She and Virgil were married on September 25, 1981. They lived in Friona most of their married life until Virgil’s illness brought them to Abernathy. They lived in Savannah Park Apartments and she loved it there. She had the apartment across from the office where she could see everything that was going on. She continued her love for cooking and saved her family many times when they needed a dessert. The church was blessed by all the strawberry, banana and zucchini bread she made for the Sunday breakfasts. As Wanda’s health declined, she had to leave her Savanah Park family and moved to Brookdale Remington Assisted Living in November of 2017. There she found many new friends in the residents and the loving staff. She passed away peacefully on August 6, 2018 surrounded by her family.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Stanley in 1980, her husband Virgil in 2012, her son-in-law Tommy Edwards in 2009, a nephew Cecil Baker, who was like her son, her parents, four sisters and a brother.
