By Megan Carr

I will start this week by saying how truly devastating our loss has been throughout the past year. My heart goes out to each and every family member and friend that is grieving. I sincerely hope for peace and wellness in the times to come.

I always enjoy having visitors in the office. This week I had the chance to converse with Gayla Quillin while she was taking care of some business with us. We talked about places we’ve lived, experiences we’ve had, recent grief of our community, and how special of a place Friona is for the people who live here. We agreed that the people of Friona are its greatest asset, and I personally feel blessed to be a part of such a compassionate and giving community. Thanks for the chat, Gayla.

National Nurse’s Week is May 6-12. The nursing profession takes incredible amounts of strength, both physically and mentally, and is a highly respectable position—one that is not easily accomplished by just anybody. Nursing is a career of compassion and selflessness and constant dedication, and I believe that we have one of the most hardworking teams here in Friona. Between the nursing staff at Prairie Acres, Heritage Estates, Bluebonnet Home Health, and Parmer Medical Center, I hope you’ll join in showing extra appreciation for these exceptional individuals.

The new building on Highway 60 is starting to look a lot like a Family Dollar. A new sign, some parking stripes and some product on the shelves, and I think Friona may have itself a new shop site. I can’t lie, I’m pretty excited about the new store opening. Maybe they’ll even place one of those electric horse rides outside.

Last week there was a birthday name listed that I had written incorrectly. Morgan (Anthony) Ivey had a birthday on April 14, and I gave her the wrong last name. Happy Birthday, Morgan—Hope it was a great day!

Friona’s weather guru, John Gurley, gave us a measurement of .26 inches on the rain gauge for the showers we were so lucky to experience this past weekend. Perhaps sometime soon we will see multiple inches, but for now, we’ll just enjoy the moisture.
