Betty Jean Blackburn

Betty Jean Blackburn, 93 of Alpine, CA, formerly of Friona passed away March 9, 2018. Celebration of Life Services have been scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the 6th St. Church of Christ in Friona with Hal Blackburn and Jeff Procter, minister, officiating. Burial following in the Friona Cemetery by The Hansard Family at Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home of Friona.

Betty Jean was born August 15, 1924 in Anadarko, Oklahoma to Howard D. and Mary Elizabeth Tackett Mayfield. She attended all grades in Friona and graduated in 1941. She met the love of her life, Keith Love Blackburn in grade school. They were married on November 16, 1942, and were married 62 years. They owned the Mobil Oil Co. in Friona and later owned Blackburn’s Ladies Ready to Wear in Albuquerque, N.M. She has resided with her daughter in Alpine, California for the last 5 years.

She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ of Friona, Albuquerque and San Diego.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a sister-Dorothy Lovelace.

Those continuing her legacy include 1 daughter-Dr. Jill Blackburn Anella and husband Dr. Ben Anella of Alpine, 1 sister-Peggy Snider Gikas of Salado, Texas, 1 sister-in-law-Anna Jo Blackburn of Friona, grandchildren-James Keith Anella, Justin Anthony Anella, Jason Howard Anella and wife Candice, Jennifer Jean Anella Lorek and husband Dan and a great-grandchild-Aurora Rian Anella.

JT Hammonds

JT Hammonds, 99 of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, formerly of Bovina passed away January 31, 2018. Celebration of Life Memorial Services have been scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 17, 2018 at the Bovina United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Mitchell, pastor, officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Bovina Cemetery by the Hansard Family of Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home of Friona.

Mr. Hammonds was born February 13, 1918 in Chillicothe, Texas to Oma Looney Dorsey. He later served in the United States Navy during WWII and married Myrna Hester in Bovina.

JT was a farmer and sold seed to other farmers. He also owned a Phillips 66 service station in Bovina. He built his own sail boat and made model airplanes. He loved to play softball and getting together with friends over a cup of coffee. He was a great public speaker and spoke at many churches as well as teaching an adult Sunday school class at the Bovina United Methodist Church. He was a loving husband, father and was a jovial man that loved life.

He is preceded in death by his mother Oma and wife Myrna.

Those to carry on his legacy are his daughter-Carole Lynn Boguslawski and husband Joe of Cape Girardeau, Missouri, 2 grandchildren-Amber Larson and husband Karl of Chelsea, Alabama, and Dustin Dodson of Denver, Colorado, 2 great-grandchildren-Chelsea Larson of Lawrence, Kansas and Wyatt Larson of St. Louis, Missouri.

O Dean Bingham, Jr.

Services for Dean Bingham, 69, of Kilgore will be 10:00 am Monday, March 10, 2018 at Chandler Street Church of Christ with Chris Vidacovich officiating. Burial will follow in Danville Cemetery. Mr. Bingham died Wednesday, March 7, 2018 in Dallas, Texas.

Dean was born July 25, 1948 in Lubbock, Texas to Genevieve and O Dean Bingham, Sr. He was a 1966 graduate of Friona High School. Dean attended two years of School at Texas Tech, and earned his bachelor’s degree from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas. Mr. Bingham obtained his certification from Southwestern Graduated School of Banking at SMU. He was a banker in Amarillo, Lone Star and worked in Dalhart before moving to Kilgore in 1985. Dean worked 20 years at Citizen Bank before retiring from Texas Bank in Henderson. He was a member of Chandler Street Church of Christ, and enjoyed playing golf and working in the yard. Dean’s family was his everything, especially his wife and grandchildren.

Mr. Bingham is survived by his wife of 50 years, Darlene Bingham, of Kilgore; a daughter, Deena Shae Manos and her husband, Cole, of Kilgore; a son, Brett Bingham and his wife, Penny, of Georgetown; a sister, Darla Stedman and her husband, Ken, of Wilits, California; three grandchildren, Brendan Bingham of Kilgore, Kylie Shae Hill of Kilgore, Gennie Bingham of Kilgore; a sister-in-law, Diana Cavin, and her husband, Jim, of Hereford, Texas; a brother-in-law, Mickey Wilson and his wife, Shirley, of Beeville; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday afternoon between 3:00 – 5:00 pm.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Chandler Street Church of Christ.

Mary Tom (Spring) Isaac

Mary Tom (Spring) Isaac, 77, died March 4, 2018, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on January 10, 2018. After weeks of fighting to heal, Mary Tom went with dignity and grace into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Mary Tom was born in Clovis, NM on December 19, 1940 to Frank A. and Ethel R. Spring, and raised in Friona, Texas. Mary Tom Spring graduated from Colorado College in 1962 with a degree in Political Science. While attending Colorado College, she met the love of her life, James B. Isaac. They married on September 7, 1963. They went on to have three children: Susan Metzler (Jeff), Barry Isaac and Tom Isaac (Kari Somers). She was the best grandma to her three grandchildren, Allie Darling (Cole), Tanner Metzler and Braydan Isaac. She was so very proud of each of them and loved them beyond words. She was joyously awaiting the birth of a granddaughter this May (Tom and Kari). Mary Tom is survived by her family and brother, Frank L. Spring (Martha) of Albuquerque, NM, brother-in laws Frederick M. Isaac (Judy) of Seattle, WA and Sam Isaac of Colorado Springs, CO, nephews Michael Isaac (Megan) and Frank A. Spring (Angela), niece Margaret Isaac (Matt Hanson), a great-niece, 3 great-nephews and numerous cousins.

Mary Tom was an active member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. One of her greatest loves was cooking for the Keenagers at St. Paul’s and fellowship with her friends at their weekly Bible study. She was honored by St. Paul’s when she received the Quiet Disciple award for her service to the church. She was so proud to be a member of St. Paul’s and truly loved her church family. Her close friend said that “her eyes sparkled when she read the Bible.” Throughout her life, Mary Tom was active in local politics. She loved to campaign and participate in community activities. Mary Tom was El Paso County Co-Chairman for George H.W. Bush, head of the Armstrong Ambassadors for Senator Bill Armstrong and served on the Colorado Springs Park and Recreation Board as a member and Chair. She loved living in Colorado Springs. Mary Tom was also an active gardener and loved to play Bridge. Number one on her Bucket List was to visit Paris, shop in the markets and take a cooking class with a French Chef. She fulfilled this dream in September of 2016 and she said it was more wonderful than she had imagined. We are so grateful that she was able to take that trip.

Mary Tom was a beautiful, friendly soul who touched so many with her kindness, love and gentle spirit. She was loved by so many and will be forever missed by those who knew and loved her. We thank God that we got to spend our lives with her and she made each of us a better person for having known and been loved by her.

Mary Tom’s memorial service will be Saturday, March 24, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, 2111 Carlton Ave., Colorado Springs, CO 80909. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Mary Tom’s name to St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

We would like to thank her St. Paul’s family and the nurses at Penrose Hospital and Pikes Peak Hospice for their loving care.

Carol Mcintosh

Carol Mcintosh, 61 of Friona passed away March 12, 2018 in Friona. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Friona United Methodist Church in Friona with Rev. Skip Hodges, pastor, officiating. Arrangements by the Hansard Family at Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home of Friona.

Carol was born October 22, 1956 in Clovis, NM to Norbert Otto and Oretta Jarrell Schueler. She graduated from Friona High School and later married Sam Mcintosh on October 29, 1992. She was a 30 plus year medical information clerk for Prairie Acres Nursing Home. When not at work or helping others, Carol loved to be home cooking and spending time with her family and beloved dogs.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and one daughter-Jacy Anna DeLeon.

Those remaining to carry on her legacy are her husband, Sam of Friona, 2 sons-Justin DeLeon and wife Leanna of Fort Smith, Arkansas, Samuel Clay Mcintosh Jr. and wife Jessica of Muleshoe, 2 daughters-Pamela Radford and husband Jimmy of Bovina, Lawanda Laura May Rose of Texico, 1 brother-Clinton Schueler and wife Rhonda of Spring, Texas, 1 sister-Terri Glover and husband Kenney of Abilene, 12 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
