Well, the groundhog Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow this year, meaning we get another six weeks of winter. Since 1887, Phil has predicted a longer winter 104 times, including this year. He has forecast an early spring just 18 times, according to records.

Deirdre and Mark Osborn are leading a GriefShare Christian Support Group in their home starting on Monday, February 19, at 6:00 p.m. This event is sponsored by Friona United Methodist Church, but is open to anyone interested. It will be a wonderful opportunity of outreach and healing for those who have experienced loss and grief.

A third ambulance for Friona is a near reality, and with the help of those who may still want to contribute, the goal of the committee to provide adequate funding for its purchase will be met. The committee will not be soliciting donations after February 15, and a list of donors will be published in the Friona Star the week of February 19. It is not too late for flu vaccinations! Senior citizen advocate Dan Weber has stated that the flu season came early this year and is expected to last for months. Seniors, especially age 65 and older, should consider getting a flu shot to reduce the risk of getting the virus.
