Santa stops at Depot to see kids
Santa, Mrs. Claus, and the Elves made a visit to the Christmas in the Park event last Saturday to meet the children and listen to their Christmas wishes. Santa arrived on the “Little Ole Train” conducted by Larry Rector and was introduced to the crowd by Mayor Ricky White. Also on hand was Miss Friona Victoria Williams and Little Miss Friona Sarai Chavarria who were there to pass out candy canes. A group of FFA students were also there to help the children write letters to Santa so he would not forget what toys they needed. The Junior High and High School choirs sang Christmas carols while parents and their kids waited in line to see “the big guy.”
After Santa finished his Meetin’ and Seasons Greetin’ he made a couple of laps around the park in the Parade of Lights and then headed back to the North Pole to get to work. Since the wind was blowing 30-40 mph from the west, he headed East out of town.
The Friona Police Department won the “Best Float” award with their grinch-goes-to-jail theme. Hi-Pro won the “People’s Choice” award for best dressed tree and collected 190 cans of food. The Friona Primary School won the traveling “Tomahawk” award for the best dressed tree by a school.
