Dorothy Self

Dorothy Self, 85, of Dimmitt passed away Friday, October 12, 2018 in Dimmitt. Funeral services were on Monday, October 15, 2018 in the Colonial Funeral Home Chapel at 2:30 PM with family officiating. Graveside services were held on Monday at 4:30 PM at Muleshoe Memorial Park Cemetery in Muleshoe, Texas. Arrangements have been entrusted to Colonial Funeral Home of Dimmitt.

Dorothy was born August 15, 1933 in Plainview, Texas to Alvin Luther and Molly Letitia (Armes) Harris. Dorothy married Max Self on June 11, 1955. Dorothy and Max were residents of Friona from 1961-1984. She and Max have been residents of Dimmitt since 2002, moving from Jack County where they ranched from 1984-2002. Dorothy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Friona and First Baptist Church of Dimmitt and was very involved in both churches, she taught Sunday school in Friona. She was a member of Friona Young Homemakers; she volunteered at the Perrin Independent School District and was a substitute teacher for Dimmitt Independent School District. Dorothy loved to mentor to children, she enjoyed gardening vegetables, cooking for everyone and for large groups, she volunteered cooking for the funeral meals at church, enjoyed walking, but above all these her greatest love was spending time with her family and her grandchildren.

Those left to cherish her memories are her husband Max Self of Dimmitt; her children Gayla Brown and her husband David of Bootleg, TX; Gary Self and his wife Faith of Childress, TX and Terry Self and his wife Fran of Perrin, TX; a sister Trell Taylor and her husband Harold of Mineral Wells, TX. a brother Melvin Harris and his wife Arnetta of Clifton, TX. nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters Juanita Smiley and Bonnie Barnard and four brothers Dalton, James, Dean and Bobby Harris.
