FISD School Board approves 2017-18 budgets
The Friona Independent School District Board of Trustees met in two special sessions on Monday, August 28, 2017 in the board meeting room of the FISD Administration Building.
The first meeting was held to conduct a public hearing on the adoption of the 2017-18 Maintenance and Operations Budget (M&O), the Interest and Sinking Fund Budget (I&S) and the Cafeteria Budget.
FISD Business Manager Dianna Wright addressed the trustees and informed them of their options for the effective tax rate as well as a number of projects that were being budgeted for the 2017-18 school year. Among those projects were replacing the High School track, busses, air conditioners for the Junior High cafeteria, the Ag farm project, and parking lot repairs.
The trustees conducted a budget work session after Wright’s presentation.
Before adjourning the first meeting the trustees unanimously approved the resolution nominating Alan Monroe to serve a term on the Board of Directors of the Parmer County Appraisal District.
The first action of the second session was to unanimously approve the 2017-18 M&O, I&S and Cafeteria Budgets. The effective tax rate of $1.04 and $.0480 for I&S was adopted.
Wright briefed the trustees on six amendments for the 2016-17 budget. The trustees approved the amendments.
The trustees discussed an upcoming meeting of the Friona City Council to address the elimination of the school zone on Grand Street on Friday, September 1 at 8 a.m. After a brief discussion, the trustees went into Closed Session.
The Trustees will next meet on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 7 p.m. at the FISD Administration Building. All meetings are open to the public.
