How about that snow Saturday? I was one of those that said it was too late in the year for snow. I was wrong. I haven’t heard numbers for the accumulation but it was fair amount of moisture. Hopefully it came at the right time and the right amount for area farmers.

Bluebonnet Home Health will be at First National Bank on Friday for the Caregivers Coffee Break at 9:30 a.m. in the Community Room. Stop by and check it out.

The Chieftain baseball team defeated Tulia, 15-5, to tie for second place in District last Friday. After a coin flip Tulia won 2nd place and Friona won 3rd. The team will go into Bi-District playoff Game One against Littlefield on Friday, May 5 in Littlefield at 6 p.m. Game Two will be in Friona at noon on Saturday, May 6. If there is a tie, Game Three will be played 30 minutes after conclusion of second game, also in Friona.

If you haven’t voted in the FISD School Board Trustee election, you still have time. Voting day is Saturday, May 6 at the Friona City Council Chambers at 621 Main Street. Candidates are Maria Monreal Garcia, Jamie Lewellen, Corbin Riethmayer and Wade Schueler.

Don’t forget to run by the InterBank parking lot on this Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and get your car washed at the FFA Donation Car Wash and Sausage Wrap Sale.

Sunday at 2 p.m. everyone will have the chance to attend the Friona Chamber of Commerce & Agriculture Spring Tea & Fashion Show at Milk House Market or the Senior academic awards at the FHS Auditorium. Looks like a busy Sunday afternoon in Friona.

May 8-12 is Teacher Appreciation week. Teachers are angels sent to earth for what good they do with our children. Thank your child’s teachers next week for all they do for you and your child.

Heritage Estates announced they are collaborating with Bluebonnet Home Healthcare to provide a community event every 3rd Friday in the upcoming months. The focus group discussions will begin at 11 a.m. If anyone would like to stay after the event and have lunch, please RSVP no later than the day before the event. Meals are $3 and everyone is welcome to come and enjoy lunch with the residents. This month’s event will be Friday, May 19.

Prairie Acres announced this week that the Resident of the Month is Ila Daniels. The Employee of the Month is Misty Henderson. Misty is the MDS Coordinator and has been with Prairie Acres since December 2016.

Mother’s Day is just around the corner. Mothers come in every shape, size, age and color but they all want one thing…love!

Speaking of Mother’s Day on Friday, May 12, Friona Primary Pre-K students will having a Mother’s Day Tea at 11:30 a.m. and Prairie Acres will have a Mother’s Day party at 3 p.m.

The athletes of FHS will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 9 at the All Sports Banquet at the junior high cafeteria and auditorium starting at 6 p.m. Canna Ray is catering the meal. Tickets are $10 at the door.

It is prom time! FHS Juniors and Seniors will hold their prom Saturday, May 13 at the Hereford Country Club.

Remember to get your 50 for 50 tickets from any Friona Volunteer Firefighter. The drawing will be held July 4 at 9 a.m. The proceeds will benefit the FVFD.

Local fiddle players Madison Tyler and Elaina Procter played at the 46th Annual Bob Will Days Fiddle Contest. Elaina placed 2nd in the 12 and under age group. Congratulations Elaina.

There has been a Love Fund set up for Wayne Stone at Friona’s First National Bank of Hereford. Wayne was diagnosed with liver and lung cancer on April 17. He is currently receiving chemo treatments.

Bakery Alexia at 601 Main Street is now in the pizza business. They started selling homemade pizza last Friday and business was booming after the baseball game. Their hours are 5-10 p.m. Sunday through Saturday. They not only offer pizza but buffalo wings, cinnamon sticks, garlic bread sticks and all the delicious bakery goods Friona has come to know.
