FHS Baseball Coach Jesus Quiroz proudly announced that the Chiefs beat the River Road Wildcats 14-4 last Saturday. They won with a 3-run walk-off homerun in the bottom of the sixth hit by Chris Rodriguez. Way to go Chiefs!

Victory Family Worship Center will host “Easter EGGSTRAVAGANZA” on Saturday at the City Park. The community is invited to come out and enjoy free hot dogs at 1 p.m. and then stay for the Easter egg hunt at 2 p.m.

First United Methodist Church invites the community to celebrate Easter with them. They will hold Maundy Thursday Service April 13 at 7 p.m. in the church sanctuary. On Sunday, they will hold Easter Sonrise Services at 7:30 a.m. in front of the church followed by breakfast in the Fellowship Hall. Easter Services will be held at 11 a.m. in the sanctuary followed by an Easter egg hunt on the church grounds. If you are bringing eggs, please bring them to the church office this week or before the 11 a.m. service.

Victory Family Worship Center will host “The Road To Redemption” on Friday, April 14 at 7:30 p.m. at 110 E. 9th St. This is a Good Friday experience which is an unforgettable, high impact, fast paced multimedia video production. The public is invited to attend this event.

The Chamber announced this week they will be hosting a “Miss Friona Pageant Workshop” at the City Park Depot Saturday, April 22 at noon. All young ladies who will be a Sophomore, Junior or Senior enrolled in Friona High School or in a sanctioned Homeschool Program, for the 2017-18 school year are invited to attend. They will serve lunch at this informative workshop. They will learn beauty tips on how to sit, walk, talk and look like a model. They will also learn self-confidence. The City of Friona is looking for people to join the EMS team. There is a shortage of qualified EMS employees. City Manager Patricia Phipps said they need ten people to sign up before a course can be set up in Muleshoe. If you are interested in becoming a part of this team, call City Hall at (806) 250-2761. The Ambulance Project Committee will be announcing soon where and how the public can donate to the purchase of a new ambulance for Friona.

PLAN AHEAD: The Parmer County Sheriff’s Office announced the 2017 National Night Out will be Tuesday, October 3 from 6-8 p.m. at the Law Enforcement Center in Farwell. This event keeps growing each year and features not only the Sheriff’s Office but law enforcement officials throughout the county and surrounding counties. They also showcase all the county fire departments and EMS services. There will be hamburgers, music and numerous booths. Booths are available by calling the Tanya Hunn at the Sheriff’s office at (806) 481-3303.

If you are making long-range plans for fun, you might think about going to the 8th Annual Canadian River Music Festival in Canadian on May 13. You will have a fun-filled day of great music and family activities. This year’s festival will feature William Clark Green, Blackhawk, Jason Boland & the Stragglers, Flatland Calvary, Rob Baird, Red Shahan, Cody Sparks Band, and Hillbilly Stu. The Spring Tea & Fashion Show will be held at Milk House Market on May 7 at 2 p.m. this is hosted by Friona Chamber of Commerce and will be featuring fashions from Creative Chaos, Ivy Cottage and Milk House Market. The Chamber has two new board members and two new chamber members. New board members are Sergio Mendez with AgriLife Extension and Rev. Joe Schulte with Union Congregational Church. New member are Glenn and Carolyn Reeve.

I hated to hear about Spike Dykes passing away on Monday. I met him a few years ago. He was at the visiting the Ford house in Lamesa and I was servicing their first aid kit and eyewash station. He was a very nice and approachable person. He will be missed.

Santa, the scissor sharpening man, will be at Malouf’s Fabrics on Thursday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. So get your scissors, knives, rotary blades, pinking shears, etc. rounded up and take them down to Malouf’s for sharpening.

ENMU reported that five Friona and Bovina students were among 300 students that participated in the Eastern in Action (EIA) program on April 1. EIA allows students to give back to the Portales community through volunteer work. Students from this area were Alexis Alvarado, Adrian Munoz, Adilene Adame, Esmeralda Hernandez and Justin Rocha.
