The Friona Volunteer Fire Department located this truck in Arkansas at a truck sales company. It originally came from Oklahoma City. This will be the first response truck to accidents and structure fires. “We want to thank the city, the county commissioners and all who gave to the fundraisers which allowed us to buy this truck.” - Danny Campbell
Friona Postmaster Jack Glover officially retired Thursday, November 2, 2017. Jack had worked for the U.S. Postal Service for almost 35 years. He was a carrier in Muleshoe for 15 years. Jack was the Postmaster at Sudan and Muleshoe for three years each. He has served in Friona as Postmaster for 14 years.

Star Pulisher passes away after battle with cancer
Longtime Publisher and Editor Ron Carr, 78, lost his battle with cancer and passed from this earth on Monday, November 6, 2017.
Ron joined the Friona Star the same day that the June 2, 1995 tornado wrecked havoc across Friona and the area. Earlier in the day, he had asked Bill Ellis “Does anything exciting ever happen here?” and Bill replied, “Not really. This time of year we have to search for news to have a headline story.”

St. Teresa's Turkey Dinner Nov. 19
St. Teresa’s Catholic Church of Friona will hold a Turkey Dinner on Sunday, November 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Parish Hall. They will be serving up turkey, dressing and all the trimmings. Adults are $12 and children 10 and under are $6.
Community Thanksgiving Service
The Annual Community Thanksgiving Service will be Sunday, November 19, at 6:00 p.m., at Calvary Baptist Church. This is a service hosted by the Friona Christian Ministries, and is always an uplifting time of worshiping the Lord Jesus as a community of believers. A very important offering will be taken that is used to help people throughout the year in our community with basic needs. Everyone is invited to attend this Christian worship service, followed by a time of fellowship. Please bring finger foods for the fellowship, and if you want to sing in the community choir meet at Calvary Baptist at 5:00 p.m.
