I renamed Joe Bob and gave him the name Jim Bob last week. Joe Bob I apologize for renaming you.

I had a phone call this week that stated I had inadvertently relocated the new Friona City Manager Leander Davila. In the front-page article about the City Council meeting I stated that he was from Houston. I was corrected that he was from Austin. He will be relocating (the hard way) soon enough but I just moved him from one big city to another one with the stroke of a few keys. Leander, you have already moved twice and you aren’t even in Friona yet.

The Friona Star Football Contest lost one of their longtime players last week with the death of Isabel Rios. She and her family have played the contest for a number of years and she was pretty competitive. We were very sorry to hear about the Rios family loss and our sympathies go out them. Isabel will be missed.

The Parmer County Commissioners will meet Monday, November 27, at 10 a.m. at the Parmer County Courthouse in Farwell. All meetings are open to the public.

Basketball is in high gear. The 7th & 8th grade girls will be at Littlefield on Monday, November 27 and the 7th & 8th grade boys will host Littlefield the same evening. Junior Varsity and Varsity Boys and Girls will be at Boys Ranch Friday, November 28. Games begin at 4 p.m.

Make plans to attend the Simply Christmas Lunch and Learn at the XIT Center in Bovina on Thursday, November 30 from 12-1 p.m. They will be serving lunch and presenting ideas for Christmas entertaining.

“A Harvey Christmas” is set to premiere Sunday, December 3 at 2 p.m. at the Friona High School Auditorium. They have a number of local performers that will be on hand to bring the Christmas season to life. There will be a free-will offering with the money going to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.

Speaking of Christmas…Christmas in the Park is coming up on Monday, December 4 and there are trees to be adopted. If you or your organization is interested in decorating a tree contact Chris at the Chamber, she can get you set up.

The Lighted Christmas Parade is shaping up nicely. I talked to Ross last week and he says there are quite a few entries but there is always room for more. Contact Ross Paiz at the Parmer County Sheriff’s Office or Chris at the Chamber to be a part of this growing tradition.

The First Baptist Kids Choir will be performing “It All Happened in the Country” on December 3 during Sunday morning services.

Gray Thursday, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday are looming on the horizon. Do you plan on participating? I haven’t looked at the sales ads but I think I will pass on the crowds and enjoy the turkey, football and nap followed by a day filled with more turkey, football and naps.

Remember the United Way when you are giving this season. Donations will offer financial assistance to a number of local organizations and can be deposited at Friona InterBank.

The Friends of the Library Book Shoppe will be open on Wednesday, November 29 from 3-5 p.m. for all your Christmas book shopping. If you have someone in your life that loves to read, the Book Shoppe is the place to go. All books are $1 a bag and gift cards are free.

The holidays have a way of bringing some people down. If you are a caregiver, think about going to the Caregiver’s Coffee Break on Friday, December 1 at the First National Bank Community Room for coffee and donuts at 9:30 a.m. and stay for encouragement.

Heritage Estates Game Day is Tuesday, November 28 at 2 p.m. Make plans to stop to play and visit. Stop by every Tuesday.

This Saturday is Small Business Saturday. Small Business Saturday encourages holiday shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local. Check out our local businesses and shop locally.

Noon Lions meet every first and third Thursday at Headquarters Restaurant at noon. If you are interested in becoming a Lion stop by and have lunch with the Lions.

Bovina will be celebrating Christmas on Saturday, December 9 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the XIT Recreation Center. They will have Christmas in the Park starting at 5:30 p.m. with the arrival of Santa.
