Last week in the paper I said the Parmer County tax rate was to be .5069. I was wrong and apologize for the error. That was the effective rate. The proposed rate is .5416, about a penny more than last year. Judge Trey Ellis said the appraised value of county property increased about $30 million this year over last. The penny increase should generate an additional $275,000 for the county and help with the courthouse repair.

An off duty paramedic happened to be there and went to her aid getting her to a hospital. Friends said after the surgery she was in a room talking and remembered all that happened. We wish for a full recovery for Cathy.

They provided the food and the seniors got to keep the money. Anybody know who cooks the meals next week let me know and I'll give credit where credit is due.

Looks like our main road through town, Highway 60, is getting two more billboards. One is west near 4-Way Pump and the other is at the Hernandez Restaurant. One wonders how many more billboards we need. Since the billboard owners pay the local landowners for the space I reckon it is good for the economy.

The Book Shoppe, so ably managed by Connie Slagle, will remain open on Thursdays from 9-11 a.m. until it cools off in the fall, then they will move back to the afternoons. Connie says they recently received a large donation of large print books. She also has a large number of sturdy boxes for anyone that wants them. Call her at 265-5811 if you want them. They are in need of children's books. You can donate them at the library.
