Chamber planning explosive 4th of July
Rockets exploding in air, kids having fun playing games and adults cooking up hot dogs and hamburgers are all signs that the Fourth of July is here. The Friona Chamber of Commerce is making plans to bring all that fun to Friona on Saturday, July 4, 2015.
A 5K run is in the works with the proceeds going to the Parmer County Cancer Coalition. The run will start at 8 a.m. The route will be announced closer to the event.
Two parades are in the planning phase. The 2nd Annual Neighborhood Parade will start at 10 a.m. in the Western Addition on 10th Street then curve around to 9th Street. Decorate your bikes, golf carts, gators or just walk and show your patriotism. Contact Crystal Moroney at (602)739-0813 for more information.
The second parade will begin at Prairie Acres and proceed down 15th Street to Reeve Lake where other activities are being planned. The parade will begin at 11:15 a.m. For more information or to be a part of the parade contact Chris at the Chamber (806)250-3491.
The Chamber is accepting entries in a Reeve Lake Sand Volleyball tournament.
At this time, there is a plan to have a dunking booth and bouncy house as well as vendors stationed at Reeve Lake before and during the fireworks display.
Vendors are needed for water, lemonade, ice cream, etc. The normal $35 vendor fee is being waived for this event. Vendors can donate the fee to Parmer County Cancer Coalition. Vendor forms are available at the Chamber office, 621 Main, or online at www.frionachamber.com. The deadline is Friday, June 26 at 3 p.m.
“This is a good opportunity for fund raising,” stated Chris Alexander, Chamber Executive Vice President. “If you are a church group, boy scouts, girl scouts, civic group or school group this is a great opportunity.”
The Friona Volunteer Fire Department will be on hand to set off a beautiful aerial firework display at dark. The Chamber is accepting donations for the fireworks fund. Donations of any size would be appreciated.
The Chamber would like to invite everyone to come together as a community to make this a yearly event. Contact Chris for more information at (806)250-3491.
