Christmas in the Park rings in the season
The Friona Chamber of Commerce will kickoff the holiday season in Friona with the Christmas in the Park celebration on Monday, December 7.
The City Park will be lit up again this year by organizations, businesses, churches and citizens of Friona who will decorate a tree for a chance to win the Traveling Trophy. Votes for the trees can be made by contributing Pop Tarts or 16 ounce jars of peanut butter. The ‘votes’ will be donated to the Friona Snack Pak 4 Kids program. Tree decorating needs to be done before December 7. Call the Chamber at (806) 250-3491 to save your tree.
Santa will be arriving at the Depot at 5:30 p.m. to visit with the children. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Parents are asked to bring their own cameras for pictures of their children with the jolly, old man from the North. He will depart for the North Pole at 7 p.m.
If you are hungry or thirsty during your visit there will be vendors on hand with Kettle Corn, tamales and Atole. If you are interested in being a vendor at the event call the Chamber.
The City Park will be filled with the sounds of the season as the Friona High School Choir and the Friona United Methodist Church choir will be singing during the event.
Join the Friona merchants at their Christmas Open Houses and shop, eat and be merry on December 7. Ivy Cottage, Milk House Market, Glamour & Décor, Interior Expressions and Creative Chaos Boutique will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Bi-Wize will hold their Open House from 2-4 p.m. the same day.
There will not be a home lighting contest this year but the Chamber Board members will be driving around during the season and taking photos of the best decorated homes to be sent to the Friona Star for recognition.
The Chamber is encouraging everyone to shop locally with their “Ho Ho Home for the Holidays” event which started November 16 and runs until Thursday, December 17. Sign up to win $25 -$100 in Friona Bucks at any of the following businesses: A-1 Service Center, Bi-Wize Pharmacy, Blackburn Hardware, Malouf’s Fabrics, Carniceria Hernandez, Tasty Cream, Fast Stop, Milk House Market, Interior Expressions, Hunan’s Restaurant, Ivy Cottage, Kendrick Oil-Farm Store, Subway, Glamour & Décor, Lowe’s Supermarket and Veterinary Industries.
