Have we had weather? If you call 40mph gusts and blowing dust weather then we have had it. Official Friona weather guy John Gurley has not been very busy. We have received only 0.07” of moisture in March. The junior high track meet in Olton last Thursday was canceled because of the blowing dirt. They will try again Saturday April 5 at the junior high district track meet in Abernathy.

It seems teachers and staff spend time trying to motivate the kids taking the STAAR tests. (I am opposed to standard testing until there are standard kids.) Elementary students were given t-shirts with a motivational message to wear. I ran into one teacher at Wal Mart last Saturday. She was gathering items for sweet snacks for her students to relieve some of the tension associated with these ridiculous tests. Similar events took place all across the state. It is a frustrating situation that benefits no one except the company that sells the tests.
