Four tie for football contest grand prize
Winner, winner turkey dinner!
The 12-week Friona Star football contest ended in a four-way tie for the total point grand prize of $100. The prize will be divided among the four winners: Rusty McFarland of Friendswood, TX, Mack McFarland of Crane, TX, Lester Fennell of Plainview, and Jeremy Dearing of Lubbock all finished with 119 total points. Both Rusty McFarland and Jeremy Dearing are previous grand prize winners.
Tyson Neill finished with 118 points, Mitchell Smiley had 117, William Gromowsky and Clint Mears had 116, and former winner Sandra Berend finished with 115 total points.
The winner of the Week 12 final contest was Brian Simons of Longview, TX. Brian picked 11 of 15 correct and wins the $25 weekly cash. He was the only contestant with 11 correct. Brian is the boyfriend of Bovina native Christen Stowers. She is a teacher in Longview. Grand prize winner Jeremy Dearing is Dorothy Stowers son-in-law. The Stowers clan has played the football contest for many years.
Other families that enjoy the fun are the Berends, the Diaz/Rios family, the Smiley family, Scott and Claire Brown of Muleshoe, and the Gonzalez family of Bovina. We appreciate all of you.
There were a total of 96 contestants over the 12-week contest. Most entered all 12 weeks. The winning total of 119 points is an average of 9.91 correct picks per week out of 15 games. We hope everyone that entered had fun and congratulations to the 12 weekly winners and our four grand prize winners. Winner checks are on the way!
