The Friona FFA Radio Script team gave their winning presentation at the Tuesday evening FFA banquet. The team of, l-r, Brady Hansard, Coke Capshaw, and Sawyer Osborn placed 1st in both district and area and won 3rd place at state competition. There were 560 radio teams that began the competition in local chapters in Texas. Their script was about the importance of wind energy in the Panhandle. Coke Capshaw was named FFA Chapter president for the 2013-14 school year. Sawyer is the outgoing president. Congratulations to ag instructor Tracy Blount and the entire Friona FFA Chapter on an outstanding year.

The front page of Section D in the Amarillo Globe-News last Sunday had a Friona connection. The story was about author Chad Gayle’s novel, “Let It Be,” due in stores Wednesday. Mr. Gayle is the son-in-law of Friona residents Dr. Gary and Nedra Cash. He is married to J’Mai. The Gayles live in New York but the story is set in the Texas Panhandle. (more...)
Athletes honored at all-sports banquet
The 2012-2013 Friona High School all-sports awards banquet was held Tuesday, May 7, 2013. The banquet was held in the high school cafeteria followed by the awards program in the high school auditorium. (more...)
White, Barnett, Riethmayer win election, council to vote on banning synthetic drugs
The results are in from the May 11 mayor and school board elections. Rick White won the mayor’s race and Ricky Barnett and Becky Riethmayer were elected to the school board. And two new city council members, Alan Monroe and Bruce Fleming, will take their seats at Monday’s council meeting. There was not a city council election since there were three seats and three candidates. (more...)
