Wesley Eugene Ellis, 91, of Friona died Friday December 14, 2012 at his residence near Friona.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday December 19, 2012, at the Friona Methodist Church with Rev. Kurt Borden, pastor, officiating. Butrial followed in the Friona Cemetery by Blackwell-Mullins Funeral Home.
Mr. Ellis was born June 20, 1921, in Retrop, Oklahoma, to Albert A. and Rosie Ellen Evans Ellis. He graduated from Anton High School in 1939. He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army in Manila, Philippines.
He was a lifetime farmer beginning with his father in Anton. He married Dorothy Faye Fite in Anton in 1941. They moved their young family to Friona in 1953 where he farmed continuously until the end of his earthly life. He was a devoted father, an avid sports fan, and enjoyed horse races in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
He was a member of the Friona United Methodist Church and actively worked with his sons’ Boy Scout, 4-H, and FFA activities. His greatest joy was always his family and spending time in later years with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, two sisters, and the love of his life, his wife Dorothy whom he was married to for 72 wonderful years.
Survivors include: three sons, Michael Gene Ellis and wife Martha of Bowie, Texas, Lonnie Dale Ellis and wife Terri of Friona, and Randy Bruce Ellis and wife Leann of Azle, Texas; five grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and a special caregiver Nora Gonzales of Friona.
