Chiefs lose to River Road 21-14
The Chieftains lost the district opener to the River Road Wildcats last Friday. In spite of 257 rushing yards, the Chiefs scores came on passes.
The leading rusher was Luis Trejo with 19 carries for 120 yards. Marco Monreal carried 24 times for 114 yards. Quarterback Monreal completed 5 of 12 passes for 47 yards and a TD to receiver Jonathan Hernandez. Sergio Flores completed a halfback pass to Johnny Ojeda for the other touchdown.
Hernandez gathered two passes for 37 yards. Salvador Santiago caught three passes for 19 yards.
The Chiefs had 324 yards of total offense and 20 first downs on 62 plays. J. Hernandez punted twice for 80 yards.
Leading rusher for the season is Trejo with 527 yards on 82 carries. Monreal has 462 yards on 91 carries. Jonathan Hernandez is leading pass receivers with 31 receptions for 389 yards. Monreal has completed 55 of 96 passes for 608 yards. Alvaro Gardea is 18 of 18 extra points.
The Chiefs host Littlefield here Friday October 14. Littlefield beat Shallowater 37-13 last Friday. The remainder of the schedule is at Muleshoe Oct 21, Shallowater here Oct 28, and Slaton there Nov 4.
