Turn your clocks back one hour by 2 a.m. Sunday November 4, 2012, as Daylight Saving Time ends. Fall back until we spring forward next year. I’ll be turning my clocks back Saturday afternoon. Lighter mornings and earlier dark is just ahead.

The St. Ann’s Catholic Church of Bovina will serve their popular annual turkey and dressing dinner Sunday November 4 in the parish hall. Serving time is 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Turkey, dressing, creamed potatoes and gravy, green beans, homemade bread, cranberry sauce, relish plate, desserts, tea and coffee make up the sumptuous menu. Donations are $10 adults and $5 children under six years. Takeout plates are available and a quilt raffle will be held.

New officials in Bovina. It is reported that the Bovina city council has hired Katrina Bryant of Texico as their new city manager and Jesus Garcia of Hereford as the new police chief. Both will begin their duties on November 1, 2012.

Empty Stocking Fund serves needy children for Christmas
Thanks to the local United Way the Empty Stocking Fund is able to help children in our community that otherwise would not have Christmas. Last year around 50 children were served by the Empty Stocking Fund. The fund volunteers purchase coats, pants, tops, underwear, and shoes for needy children. They also include at least one toy of some kind but clothing is the primary focus. The needy children recipients are selected by teachers.

Friends of the Friona Public Library membership drive
The Friona Friends of the Library promote the library and general literacy in the community and surrounding areas.
They help keep the Redeemer Literacy Center repaired and in working order. They partner with Region 16 Service Center to hold English classes and have recently added GED classes.

Bushland beats the Chiefs 28-0
The Bushland Falcons and Friona Chieftains squared off Friday night with identical records, 1-6, 0-2. In the battle to stay out of the cellar in District 1-2A, the Falcons riddled the Chieftain secondary with 412 passing yards and earned a 28-0 victory.
