
Michael “Mike” Robert Riethmayer, affectionately known as “Flash”, 77, went home to join the Lord on June 23, 2026, in Friona. Viewing was held from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Friday, June 26, 2026 in the Ron Smiley Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Celebration of Life Services were held at the Sixth Street Church of Christ of Friona on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 10:30 AM, with Jeff Procter, officiating. Burial followed in the Friona Cemetery entrusted to HANSARD FAMILY Funeral Home of Friona.
Mike was born on April 25, 1949, in Lamesa, Texas, to Walter Robert Riethmayer and Bessie Geneiva Boggess Riethmayer. He graduated from Friona High School in Friona, Texas, in 1967.
Mike attended West Texas State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree. While there was a member of the PHI DELTA THETA fraternity. He later graduated from Texas A&M University in 1972 with a Master’s Degree in Agricultural Economics. After getting his Master’s, he served as the youngest Texas A&M Extension Agent in the State of Texas. From there, he transitioned to working for the Texas Cattle Feeders Association. In 1977, he began farming and ranching in Friona, Texas, alongside his loving wife Rebecca “Becky” Gayle Elliott Riethmayer and their two sons, Brenton “Brent” Robert Riethmayer and William Corbin Riethmayer. He farmed and ranched for fifty years until retiring. His greatest joy was his cattle operation. He spent many days working with his cattle and always loved the spring calving season. He loved to go fishing, camping, and snow skiing. He taught his sons and five grandchildren a love of the outdoors. He was a very driven man with a hard work ethic who always made sure to provide for his family. He took great pride in taking care of those he loved.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Robert Riethmayer and Bessie Geneiva Boggess Riethmayer.
Mike is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Rebecca “Becky” Gayle Elliott Riethmayer of Friona. His son, Brenton “Brent” Robert Riethmayer, and wife, Alisa Riethmayer of Caldwell, Texas, and children, Dawson Robert Riethmayer, Shelby Riethmayer Haney, and husband Joshua Haney. His son, William Corbin Riethmayer of Friona, Texas, and children William Colton Riethmayer, Kamyn Paige Riethmayer, and Matthew Jacob Riethmayer. He is also survived by a great-granddaughter, Winnona Hayes Haney, and another arriving in October, Clara Jean Haney, by two sisters, Patricia Kay Rogers and husband Larry Rodgers, and sister Beverly Jill Riethmayer, and by numerous other relatives and friends.
