Simón Salinas, 68, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in Amarillo, Texas. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 2:00 PM at San Jose Catholic Church with priest Shane D. Wieck officiating. Burial followed at St. Anthony’s Cemetery. Viewing was held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, from 12:00-8:00 PM and rosary at 6:00 PM at the funeral home. Arrangements and services were entrusted to Mendez and Mullins Family Funeral Home of Hereford, Texas.
Simón was born on November 26, 1956, to David and Maria Luz (Garcia) Salinas in Urireo, Guanajuato, Mexico. He met and married the love of his life on February 20, 1982, in Mexico. Together they had a beautiful life and four sons. Simón has been in the agriculture industry for the majority of his life and also worked at Cargill for 10 years. Simón enjoyed working, singing, walking, and enjoying nature. He enjoyed socializing and making friends. Simón had many hobbies and entertainments, but his favorite was spending time with his family and grandchildren. He always had encouraging words of advice for his family and friends. Simon was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and a wonderful friend to so many. His presence, sense of humor, laughter and big heartedness will be missed by all who love him.
Those left to cherish and treasure his memories are his parents, David and Maria Luz Salinas of Friona; his wife, Maria Gloria Salinas of Hereford; his four sons, Simon F. Salinas, Jr. and his wife Raquel of Friona, David B. Salinas and his wife Ruby of Amarillo, Juan Pablo Salinas of Hereford, and Jimmy Salinas and his wife Emily of Hereford; eight grandchildren, Fabian, Merary, Mateo, Sofia, Kaleb, Illyana, Isaac and Arilynn; his siblings, Jose Salinas and his wife Antonia of Hereford, Mario Salinas and his wife Martha of Friona, Bernardo Salinas and his wife Amelia of Friona, Cornelio Salinas and his wife Margarita of Hereford, Serafin Salinas and his wife Imelda of Hereford, David Salinas, Jr. and his wife Elvira of Friona, Emma Zepeda and her husband Salud of Dimmitt, Aaron Salinas and his wife Rufina of Friona, Flor Ortega and her husband Rafael of Houston, and Maria Rivera and her husband Antonio of Hereford and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Simón is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
