Ready, Set, Play!

Children at the Cottonwood Town Homes received a big surprise recently when new playground equipment, courtesy of local donors, was installed in the courtyard of the apartment complex. The multi-level structure features a slide, three tube slides, a ladder, and ramp. Also, new picnic tables will soon be added to the courtyard.

Happy Anniversary - July 1st will mark the 10th Anniversary of Lt. Isidro Jimenez being sworn in as Chief of Police for the City of Friona. Jimenez replaced Frank Mooney who retired at the end of June in 2014. Chief Jimenez began his career with the police department as a patrol officer in October 2004. Congratulations on 10 years as police chief and 20 years as a police officer serving our community!

Patriotic Parade - A Fourth of July Parade will be held in the Western Addition and will start at 1609 W. 10th Street. Line-up is at 9:15 a.m. and the parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will go around the block. Free snowcones will be served by Fire & Ice.

Attention Caregivers - A Caregiver Meeting will be held on Friday, July 5th at Legacy Pointe located at 1500 N. Main in Friona. Refreshments will be served at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting will start at 10:00 a.m. and will be an open conversation on caregiving. All family and private-paid caregivers are invited to attend. This free educational event is sponsored by Bluebonnet Home Health and Hospice.

You're Invited - Vendors are invited to participate in the "Summer Celebration" with NewsChannel 10 in the city park on Tuesday, July 16th. This exciting event will celebrate and showcase Friona and will feature various activities and attractions for the whole community. There will be a designated area for vendors booths at the celebration. The vendor spots are free of charge. Vendors must supply their own setup and must be ready by 4:30 p.m. the day of the event. Water Tower Update - Completion of the Water Tower Repair Project is still about 2-3 weeks away. Work on the inside is still underway and another coat of paint will be applied to the exterior.
